Բարև և բարի գալուստ Ամերիկայի կառավարություն:

hey! What's up?! Welcome to introduction to American Government and politics!

Professor Michael Sangervasi welcomes you to his Introduction to American Government and Politics class. Get signed up! Don't wait!

The Government has power, but so do the people

What will I learn in this class? In our Introduction to American Government and Politics class, we discuss the most important problems happening in America today, especially the major problems in government. We study America’s diverse communities and share how we all might work together to provide the best solution for everyone, locally, at the state level and nationally. We analyze who has power in our country to make changes and what strategies may have the most impact on our future so everyone can achieve the “American Dream.”

Why would YOU take this class? Short answer: POWER. Who has power in America? Get educated in POWER! Learning about POWER IS AMAZING! Do you want to understand how power works in America? Who has power? And, who has power in your their local community? What about the dignity of every person and the power of the individual to make a positive change in our world? Interested? Let's do this!

What is 1619 about?

This symposium of the Library of Congress explores the experience and impact of Africans brought to America during the slave trade 400 years ago.

Who teaches this anyway? Hi! I am Michael Sangervasi and I am excited to say that I will be your professor for your Introduction to American Government and Politics class next semester. It's an honor. Teaching American Government and Politics is the highlight of my career! I love it and I know you will too! 😊 I've taught Political Science over the past twenty years at several different colleges and universities in California. Personally, my wife and I really enjoy living in Los Angeles, cheering on the Los Angeles Rams Super Bowl Champions (and the San Francisco Forty Niners), going to Dodgers baseball games, hiking with our dog, biking along the beach, and just living the sunny outdoors lifestyle on the West Coast. We love the diversity of Southern California, it enriches us and it helps us to really think globally while acting locally.

What is your "Teaching Philosophy"?

I believe everyone has the desire to learn and that learning transforms people to see the value of living a meaningful life which spreads goodness to all. I believe that once you discover the meaning and value of your own unrepeatable life, you will move like an unstoppable rocket towards your goals for the rest of your life. I teach because I seek to discover and uncover with those I encounter, their hidden talents (and my own), their unfinished skills (and my own areas for growth). In this encounter, I aspire that all can discover their sense of self-worth and dignity, while providing the support needed for their family and community and being mindful of the reality of everyone’s interdependence upon each other for our own success.

You've never been to Washington, DC?! What?

First of all, Washington DC is the most powerful city in the world, and probably one of the coolest and most beautiful cities as well. Whether you have a chance to visit DC or not, the main reason why you need to take this class is because American society is very complex and very advanced, with nearly 340 million people, thousands of laws that affect you regularly and many different, very powerful government agencies, such as the FBI and the CIA. This class will finally make government and politics much more simple for you to understand! You will learn why we have (and need!) a US Constitution (Who cares about that old document!?). And, how it affects your freedoms everyday (It does?!). We will learn how California’s constitution is different and reflects the great diversity of our state. (California has a constitution? I thought all 50 states were just like California! LOL, No!) Have you ever done your duty and gone out to vote? Well, this class shows you how the people you vote for get elected into power (Everyone wants power! Right?!) and what they do when they get there (Now what?!) In this class we study what really makes a democracy different (and better!) than other types of government out there (like Kings and Queen stuff? Yes, and bad dictators too!) We study how different ideas (what is an ideology?) about how a society should managed becomes an actual law at the state, local or national levels. Then, most importantly, we look at what your rights (You don’t know your rights?) are as citizens and residents of this country, what freedoms you have (and don’t have, what?!) and what responsibilities come with those freedoms.
